Well, that was quite a snow storm last week. The snow was deep across the cemetery. And it was spectacular! This was no ordinary storm. It blew snow across, piling up in its wake. Days later, you could tell which way the wind had blown--an icy snow covered one side of many monuments and tombs, creating accents and shadows.

As part of our effort to add new and interesting content to the blog, we have set up a video playlist on YouTube about all things Green-Wood. See documentaries about the cemetery, visitor's movies of their tour of the grounds, events and even some experimental videos too.

Christmas Day, 2009. Snow covers the cemetery, bringing great serenity.

In 2008, PBS's Channel 13 featured Green-Wood as part of their The City Concealed series. I had the pleasure of being their guide for the piece. It originally appeared in October 2008 and is also online at Channel 13's website and Vimeo, listed below. I hope you enjoy it.

Today was our sixth annual performance of this wonderful site specific performance. Since 2004, Martha Bowers, director of Dance Theatre Etc., has choreographed a dance and music event across Green-Wood’s hills as part of openhousenewyork (a free annual event throughout New York City featuring architecture). Martha does wonders every year, recruiting a cast, tweaking the performances, and getting the whole thing ready. It’s is truly a different event: dancers  across the grounds, accordions playing, singers in trees or next to gravestones. A chance to enjoy the cemetery in a very different way. But words don’t do this performance justice. Hopefully, these photographs give you a better idea of how special this event is.
